Safari Packing

Videos:
Clothing

Clothing – should be predominantly neutral colours – avoid dark/bright colours.

Think layers in the daytime (mornings can be cool but afternoons will heat up and you should cover up legs and arms in the evenings.)

Pack for comfort not style – the lions don’t care what you’re wearing!

T-shirts x 3

Long sleeve cotton shirt x 1

Outdoor/fishing style shirt x 2

Shorts x 1

Long pants x 3

Sweatshirt/hoodie/fleece/down jacket x 1 – evenings can get cool around the campfire

Light anorak/raincoat (Nov – May) – something that rolls up small

(Swimwear)

Walking shoes (sneakers okay)

Sandals/flip flops

Sunhat/baseball cap

Underwear (I pack enough for whole trip since ‘smalls’ not usually accepted for laundry but you can also hand-wash yourself)

Bras x 3 for the ladies (a couple of sturdy/sports-bras and softer comfy one)

socks x 3

sarong/kikoi

Masks

Bandana for dusty drives

Toiletries (try to avoid high perfumed toiletries – they can attract insects)

Quality high factor Sunscreen

Lip balm

Moisturizing cream

deoderant

Insect Repellent

Wet wipes

Shampoo/Conditioner (small - they provide in camp)

Body wash (also small)

Toothbrush/toothpaste

Contact lenses – recommend bringing glasses as dusty conditions can make eyes irritated

Malaria tablets

Tylenol

Band-Aids

Anti-diarrheal

Benadryhl/anti-histamine cream and tablets

Neosporine/anti-septic cream

Hydrocortisone cream.

** Note that if your itinerary includes a local domestic flight the luggage allowance is 15kg per person in a soft bag. I recommend the hold-all style that have wheels on one end.

Camps all offer laundry services but please be aware that clothes are usually line-dried and often charcoal ironed – please allow at least 24 hours for laundry to be returned.
